Experience
My passion for turning kids onto the joys of reading led me first to being a children’s librarian, then a language arts teacher, and finally to opening that door for those with dyslexia, where I can have the greatest impact. My 15 years teaching experience in public elementary classrooms, Sylvan, Math Monkey, and as a private tutor, as well as my tutoring certificate from a “top ten” university, have given me excellent tools and experience to teach your child. Training and certification in two Orton-Gillingham-based systems have provided the expertise to tutor dyslexia. I also worked for ten years as a hospital social worker for children with learning problems and as a children’s librarian. My husband is a Gwinnett County special education teacher, with whom I often discuss learning issues and current school policies, both written and unwritten, about special education. My son attended Gwinnett schools for seven years. My mission in life is to help children, which I do best by giving them the competence and confidence to overcome academic hurdles. I am very aware of the struggle for self-esteem faced by children with learning difficulties, and I’m very careful to show no impatience with their mistakes. For learning to take place, it's important a student knows I like him/her. I spend extensive time preparing lessons so as to tailor them to a student’s needs and the activities that work best for that individual, but there is no additional charge for that. Using occasional games targeted to practice specific skills, I have developed and collected many ways to increase motivation and make learning fun. SAT: Verbal 720, Math 750
